Damp-proofing, and insulation
This 18th Century property had rising dampness showing through the dry lining on the garage walls.
Carefully exposing the damp area revealed that the walls were of clunch construction (a type of chalky stone commonly found in the East of England).
These walls did not have any form of damp-proof course, and so were affected by rising dampness.
The studwork was taken down in the area to be treated. A chemical damp-proof course was injected into the masonry base of the wall, and bitumastic emulsion was applied to the brickwork.
A new studwork wall was constructed and tied in with the existing studwork on the side wall, and insulation material was installed between the studs to improve its thermal performance.
The wall was then warm and dry going forward!
